SFC speech on Alternative Trading Venues
Friday, November 20, 2009 at 10:16AM On 19 November 2009 the SFC issued a release considering alternative trading venues. This release is a summary of the speech given by Mr Martin Wheatley, Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission, at the Trade Tech Asia 2009 conference in Singapore.
Mr Wheatley emphasized that regulators must consider pros and cons of such alternative venues as transparency and fairness are hard to gauge and surveillance is difficult. He does note that there can be considerable advantages including reducing trading costs, enhancing liquidity and allowing faster execution. He says that it is a growing area for Asia and something that needs to be studied further.
